P5 Class Trip to Wallace Monument & Bannockburn
Friday, 11 May 2012
On Thursday 3rd May we went to Stirling to visit the Wallace Monument and Bannockburn as part of our Wars of Independence topic.
When we arrived at the Wallace Monument we split into two groups. My group started to climb the steep , winding steps . It was really fun but also quite scary. On our way to the top we stopped in the rooms , one of which had a creepy hologram of William Wallace telling his story. From the top we had a great view of Stirling. (Iskra)
At Bannockburn we went into the education room to learn about weapons and life at the time. The man who was teaching us, Mike, was the FUNNIEST man on earth. It was interesting to learn about the weapons like the two handed sword and the spiky morning star. My favourite part was the little dramas we did, especially when Iskra really wanted to talk! I liked this bit the best because it was so funny. (Bonnie)
We saw a realistic film about the Battle of Bannockburn. An old man was telling the story as he saw it when he was little. He was very eager back then and like all the other boys he wanted to take a glimpse of the mighty English army. The man talked through the entire story explaining the sights and details. The storyline was about him seeing the battle between the Scots and the English armies. One English soldier saw Bruce and aimed for him but Bruce steered his horse out the way and whacked him on the head. Then the fierce, gory fighting began. (Natalia)
At Bannockburn we tried on clothes that people wore at the time of the Battle of Bannockburn. The chain mail was EXTREMELY heavy. I tried to pick it up but I could hardly lift it. Some people put the whole thing on, but I only put on the one for your head. When I took it off, my head felt so light. Thomas.N put on one of those hat things you put on before you put the chain mail on and he looked really funny. Danyal sad he looked like an elf! I put on a helmet that goes over your face. It was really heavy and I could hardly see out of it, I don't know how soldiers could fight with them on. I really enjoyed it. (Lachlan)
