What makes our School Different?

Leith Primary pupils spelling Giant "LEITH" Leith Primary is an amazing and historic building right on the edge of Leith Links.  Although the building hosts a number of different users the school has very spacious and flexible accommodation.  There are music rooms, a museum, a library and a newly planned art and practical room.

The school truly reflects its catchment area.  We are proud of the diversity of the children and families we serve.  We are proud of the quality of education we provide for all children. We have an excellent record in providing care, support and challenge for all pupils.  We promote positive behaviour, respect for all and encourage a positive attitude to learning.

If you would like to see more please arrange a visit through the office.

School Volunteer Information Session

volunteers.jpgThe school would like to welcome the help of parents and other family members with school activities and events from the start of next session (2008/09).

If you feel you are able to come into school on a regular basis during the day or perhaps can only occasionally help out after hours we would like to hear from you.

For further information on how you could use your time and skills to benefit the school and it's pupils please come along to an Introduction Session on Wednesday 21st May at 9.00am.

Parliament Visit

parliament_visit.jpgOn Friday the Pupil Council went to the Scottish Parliament to represent the school. Ms Craig and Mrs Stiven went with us. When we went in we saw lots of models including the debating chamber. We also saw the voting pads. Then a lady came with a card which we had to put around our necks. The lady told us the building was made of oak, steel and granite. She also told us the windows on the roof were shaped like leaves. We then went into the debating chamber and asked if we could sit on the comfy MSP chairs! The lady asked what the shapes of the windows in the chamber were. We all answered people. The shapes were of the Scottish people watching over the MSPs. Then we met our MSP Mr Chisholm. He let us sit in the MSPs chairs. We then asked him a lot of questions. I really enjoyed the trip and would love to go again.

Leith Primary will be at Leith Gala on June 7th

Do you have any unwanted gifts (children or adults) lying in a cupboard somewhere? New toys that have never been played with? Books that have never been read? Please bring them in for our gala day lucky dip. There's a box in the office - just send them into school with your child. We need your donations to make the day a success for our school! (And don't bother to wrap them if you haven't time - we'll do that too!!)

Paired Reading

Paired Reading for this term has started again. It started on the 29th April and will continue until the 18th June. P7s are really enjoying paired reading so we decided to do it for another term. There are a couple of children from each class involved and last term was a great acheivement.
Paired reading helps children to improve on their reading skills and makes them more confident in their reading aloud. Let's hope this term is a great success!!

Ceilidh

ceilidh2.jpgThe Ceilidh was a huge success with well over 100 people dancing the evening away. Many thanks to all the parents and staff who helped. Mr Martin did an amazing job decorating the hall. Bonnie from P1 said -ceilidh3.jpg
