School History

Written by Alasdair Friend Sunday, 28 October 2007

lps18c2.jpgThe origins of the school go back to the 15th century. The present site has been the location of the school since 1806 so there is a great feeling of tradition and solidity with such a heritage. The people of Leith are very proud of this fact.

The present building, opened in 1898, is the second to stand on this site and originally provided education from "the babies" to 14 year olds.

Primrose – a photo!

Written by Alasdair Friend Friday, 13 March 2009
prim.jpgThis is what Primrose Fairweather looked like.
A lady called Mrs Birch contacted the school last week through our wonderful web site with two photographs of Primrose Fairweather. Primrose was an ex-pupil and then teacher at the school who was killed on the first day of the Somme in World War One. As a result of children's research being put on the web site we now have more information about this man with a very unusual name. Prim was a friend of Mrs Birch's grandparents and they kept this photograph on their mantelpiece. Apparently he was a good footballer but was always short of money. I am delighted we now know what this man looked like.
