P7 to the Risk Factory

Written by Alasdair Friend Friday, 05 March 2010

riskfactory.jpgOn 3rd March, P7 went to The Risk Factory. We went as part of our topic on Health and Wellbeing. We were learning to make sure we could keep ourselves and others safe in real life situations.

We enjoyed the experience and felt we had learned loads of safety tips.

(P7 are encouraged to not tell other children about their visit to the Risk Factory so that in future years they are not prepared for the experiences).

P5 hit the slopes

Written by Emaan, Fraser & Jatin Friday, 05 March 2010

skiingtrip3.jpgP5 went skiing on Monday after school to Hillend. I was anxious and worried at the same time I was also brave. When I fell down it was hurting and I didn't cry. Emaan

We had to wear waterproof trousers and jackets, thick gloves, helmets and ski boots. When we got there we had to put on our skis. It was a bit of a problem. Then we had to try out different sizes of helmets. Fraser

We had lots of fun going skiing. Some people had to ski off while others got to slide down the hill. Jatin

Maths Star

Written by Alasdair Friend Friday, 26 February 2010

mathstar.jpgThis week Dylan in P6 discovered a secret way to multiply huge numbers by 11.

Here is his method.

To do this trick take a number with 8 or more digits otherwise it wont work I'm going to use 12345678 X 11 after you learn this trick you will be able to multiply an 8 or more digit number by 11 so umm lets start take the first digit of the number this is our first digit so 1 now add the first digit to the second digit 1+2=3 so 13 now add 2nd to3rd digit so2+3=5 and so on
3+4=7 4+5=9 5+6=11
1
So we do this 135791
Now we go on 6+7=13 7+8=15 so
111   1
13579135 now add the 1s 13570245 now again 13580245 this is the answer even use a calculator.

Winter Olympics at Leith Primary

Written by Alasdair Friend Friday, 26 February 2010
skiingtrip2.jpgWell done to the P6 and P7 children who finished their block of skiing this week. All the children who came on the last week were awarded level 2 or level 3. As a treat the children all got to ride the chairlift up and down the mountain. Many thanks to Debra Corrall and Denise Gordon for helping each week. Many thanks to Chris and the Parent Council who bid for the grant that has enabled this to happen at all. Next week 1st of March it is the turn of P5 for a block of 5 weeks at Hillend.
